Our tribal ancestors would work all day to provide for their families, and not one second was wasted. Now 1000 years later time has become much less valuable. Now people can actually it there for 8 hours straight scrolling through TikTok and not realizing a whole day has gone by. In this post, I will different ways to improve mental health.

Hello, my name is Jacob and I am a blogger from the UK. I began my self-improvement journey roughly 2 years ago. I can tell you now, that it’s been a long slow ride. But I generally have enjoyed it. The benefits I have received from both improving my physical and mental health are massive. Although I have a long way to go, I am so much better off than I was sitting behind that gaming PC every day after school.

There are many ways to improve your mental health, but why even bother? Well, if you have the following issues you may want to rethink that question: you are overweight; you are unproductive; you eat too much junk food; you are broke. As soon as you go through a day improving your mental health you will feel so much better about your life. It will give you a purpose and will give you the ability to say goodbye to those long days where you would do nothing but take short naps and scroll through social media.

So here it is. When it comes down to it, what are some ways to improve mental health? I followed a few methods when I was down bad. But it may not always work for you. So please follow this basic piece of advice and ‘talk to someone’. Whether its a medical professional or a friend. Speaking to someone will always help.

Now before I get into way to improve mental health. I would like you to do an online mental health assessment. Because the truth is you may not even have an issue. Sometimes, just because you have a bad couple of days. It doesn’t mean you have bad mental health, its just life. They are not a sponsor, I just want you to be sure before taking on these methods I’m about to tell you.

 

Start Scheduling

One method you can adopt to improve your mental health is changing your schedule. In fact, it surprises me how many don’t have a schedule. Not only will this avoid your from wasting time throughout your day, thinking what you have to do next. But it will release dopamine whenever you complete a task, giving you that productive feeling everyone loves.

This schedule does not have to be set in stone and does not have to be specific. All it has to do is give a brief overview of what is happening at different points in the day. For example: wake up at 6am; eat breakfast at 7am; exercise at 8am; go to work at 9am… You get the idea. The schedule is designed to help you save time throughout the day.

Meditation

Meditation as an example of ways to improve your mental health

Yes I know, sounds a bit too hippy right? Well I disagree. Meditation has thousands of proven benefits. From releasing stress to altering your personality. This tip is not just something I’ve read on the internet. This is something I have implemented into my own schedule. I can truly say it has helped me massively with my mental health.

There are multiple types of meditation. But the one I want you to try is called mindfulness. This can be done anywhere, but is best done in a quiet room. I will go into two methods of mindfulness meditation. No matter which one you choose, you will start seeing benefits after 2 weeks of dedication.

Candle Meditation

Candle meditation is more for beginners. But you will need a quiet place like a bath room, where no one will disturb you. Simply light a candle, turn the lights off and stare at the candle for a certain amount of time. I suggest starting with 10 minutes per day and upping the time as you start seeing the benefits and become more dedicated.

Closed Eyes Mindfulness

Now this method is a bit more difficult. But is more traditional. At first you will find it easier to drift away (which is why I suggest starting with candle meditation). Simple sit in a comfortable space with your legs crossed. I want you to ignore all your surroundings and only focus on your breathing. Anytime you think or focus on a different scent, quickly switch back to your breathing. It will be very frustrating at first. But please remain patient and you will soon find the benefits of mindfulness.

 

Therapy

Therapy as an example of ways to improve your mental health

No, no. I am not telling you to pay $500 for a 30 minute session with a medical professional. In fact it will cost you up most of $40 through websites like fiverr. There are honestly professionals on this website who are willing to listen to your problems. I am someone who has used this website myself to speak to people. I can honestly say it is one of the best investments.

They helped give me advice and help me become successful. As I said previously, when your mental health is lacking, your productivity is also lacking.

 

Gratitude Journaling

I guess this sounds like another piece of stupid, generic advice right? Well gratitude journaling is an amazing method to start improving yourself. At the end of everyday write down 5 things you are grateful for that you can use to improve yourself. For example: I am grateful for acknowledging I skipped my workout today; I am grateful for feeling bad about shouting at my friend today. You get the idea. Gratitude journaling is all about acknowledging that bad things in your life so you can change them.

Once you stay consistent, I can honestly say you will get out of these bad habits that you are so use to having.
