There are many great green foods to help your mental health!

It is a fact that green vegetables are the best natural antidepressants and a great way of coping with all overall mental health issues but there are certain greens that do this job at a much more extreme level! We are going to go into a few of them now. But first, we are going to be making reference to a post called antidepressant food and I will be expanding on this post as I feel as I have a bit more info to help you guys out. Check out The World Journal of Psychiatry Post here.

The first food I will be going into is watercress. This isn’t something people will just eat on their own but is great to add to dishes such as egg salads or homemade mayonnaise. The WJP site gives an AFS (Antidepressant  Food Score) of 127%. This is brilliant and by far the best food to help your mental health.

Also, another great green food to improve your mental health would be spinach! This is actually a personnal favorate. It also has many other benefits for your physical health such as lower blood sugar and blood pressure, but also can cause a lower risk of cancer! Spinach has an AFS of 97%.

Needless to say. The best seafood for your mental health would 100% be oysters. These nutritious clammed fish are tasty and extremely healthy! The AFS on oysters is 56%. This is amazing as fleshy foods are known to cause some of the issues we have addressed in this post, depression, anxiety, etc…

Also, another great food to eat is salmon. This popular redfish tastes great and is probably the healthiest fish out there. Salmon has a AFS of 16%. No this may not be the highest out of all on this list but is still a great way to get the greatest outcome for your health.

#3 – Eggs.

Eggs are a great and healthy food filled with energy-boosting protein. Eggs have many different forms, you don’t even need to keep things to chicken eggs. There are many others such as Duck and Goose eggs which are great! Although egg is not mentioned in the post we spoke about previously in the post. Eggs are great as sugar is closely linked to mental health problems. Thats why eggs are such good food to eat.

So if eggs are eaten the appropriate amount without too many herbs and spices or any added sugar from the store it is a great way to improve your mental health. They are low in natural sugar and are you should definitely give it a shot.

#4 – Avacado.

Avocado is a great fruit and full of healthy minerals and nutrients! Avacado can be made into many different meals and has only recently been discovered for its medical benefits. That’s why so many people eat it for breakfast. Now let’s get into how it helps your mental health.

Avacado as mentioned before is full-on nutrients. The reason this is is that it has something in it called tryptophan. Also, other fatty acids help tackle inflammation in the brain, releasing stress and any worries you may be having. That is why Avacado is a superfood when it comes to depression! We would be more than happy to provide a recipe article if anyone is interested. Let us know in the comments section below!

#5 – Dark Chocolate.

Although chocolate is seen in the media as this sweet, unhealthy food full of sugar that rots people’s teeth. If taking the right type in low quantities it is one of the healthiest things you can do! Dark chocolate actually contains antioxidants and can lower the risk of CHD. Check out our CHD post here. But other than these physical health benefits, it actually has numerous benefits to your mental health!

Dark chocolate gives people the ability to raise serotonin levels. Which means they feel much happier! Also, we also mentioned antioxidants before. 1. Woah! I wasn’t aware that eggs were a good source of mental health wellness. I try to eat them at least once or twice a week depending of my will to actually prepare myself something other than a sandwich for breakfast so knowing this fact might actually improve my eating habits. Just as physical health, mental health is equality important for our well-beings.

  2. I actually never knew these foods help with mental health and I already eat four out of the five on the list. I don’t really eat dark chocolate though. Would you say to try eat some dark chocolate even though I eat the other 4? As they all have their different benefits.

  3. I loved the article. It was a great read. Personally, I had no idea that chocolate lowers the risk of CHD. I mean, I kind of expected that at least one on this list will be along the lines of leafy greens and another one could be avocado. As for seafood and eggs, those make a ton of sense. What I like that you mentioned is that as far as eggs, the beneficialness applies far beyond chicken. If you hadn’t said it, I would have just quietly assumed that chicken eggs are the sole way to go. To that end, a question.

From what I can tell, there’s this infinite debate as to whether or not we should or shouldn’t eat more than 6-8 chicken eggs a week. What are your personal thoughts on that? Can we overdo it on this quite incredibly nutritious and helpful food?

    1. Of course, there are downsides to eating too many eggs. But you can get sick from eating too much of anything. Even too much water can kill you. So I think 6 – 8 eggs per week is great, id suggest more actually. Some bodybuilders eat 60 raw eggs per day which I wouldn’t suggest lol.
