Coronary Heart Disease, also known as CHD is a horrible disease that affects the arteries around your heart. Although it is important to understand this we will not go into how it works now but later on in the post. This is How to prevent Coronary Heart Disease CHD ~ Helpful tips and remedies.
It’s well known that this disease can greatly affect other parts of your body such as blood pressure. In fact, people with high blood pressure are more likely to develop CHD as it puts more pressure on the artery walls. So that’s why it’s so important to go to your GPĀ if you feel you may have CHD. As if untreated it will kill you.
What is Coronary Heart Disease?
Coronary Heart Disease or CHD is a disease that affects the arteries around the heart. Unhealthy foods cause fatty cells to build upon the Artery walls often making the blood pressure high in the body, this can cause abnormal heart rates and this is very dangerous to their health and can be very uncomfortable. If it is untreated it will be fatal.
These fatty cells build up around the heart’s arteries and after time will either block the artery and will in most cases causes Heart Attacks! Treatment must be done as quickly as possible but there is no treatment that is completely perfect and no treatment that will get rid of the disease completely.
How to treat CHD.
There are a few types of treatment for CHD and none of them are perfect. They all have faults and none of them actually cure the disease! We are going to go into a few of them now.
Method 1- Blood-thinning medicine.
Blood-thinning medicine:
A way of treating CHD and preventing a heart attack is thinning the blood. The way this works is, it spreads cells out in the blood which thins the blood so it can travel through the arteries easier and prevent clotting in the arteries which is what causes heart attacks there are a few drugs/medicines that can do this.
But thinning blood can be just as bad if it goes wrong as thinning blood can also cause heart attacks as well as strokes! Yes, it may be less risky at the moment of treatment but will greatly affect you in later life. But if there is no better option it may be the only way to go, unfortunately.
Types of blood thinning medicines:
- low-dose aspirin
- ticagrelor
- clopidogrel
- rivaroxaban
- prasugrel
Method 2- Statins Treatment.
Statin Treatment.
Statin treatment is one of the most popular treatments for CHD. Basically what the Statin drug does is, it blocks too much cholesterol and LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) receptors from building up in the liver. Statins also remove the amount of LDL cholesterol in the blood which actually makes a heart attack less likely to happen.
But again there is a downside, statins don’t just immediately work. You usually have to try many different types of statin before you actually get results from it. Statins also have terrible side effects such as, liver damage, kidney damage, muscle damage, memory loss, and even Type 2 Diabetes!
Types of Statins include.
- atorvastatin
- pravastatin
- rosuvastatin
- simvastatin
There are a few other ways of treat CHD but medically is the most popular way, I will make another post in the future about other types of treatments.
How to prevent Coronary Heart Disease.
Preventing CHD is much easier than treating it. Preventing is just as easy as changing your lifestyle whereas treating it is a matter of life and death! We are now going to give you a few ways we can do this just from a few lifestyle changes.
These should not be hard but if you are not very motivated you may need a bit more support than just this post, we suggest speaking to your GP if you are worried that you are suffering or at risk of CHD.
Method 1- Eat a healthy and balanced diet.
Eat a healthy balanced diet.
Eating a healthy balanced diet is very important to prevent CHD. This should include all different food groups such as fiber, carbs, fats and oils, salt, sugar. But do your research and maybe even create a diet plan! You can get some help with this on our Facebook page or if this isn’t an option you can always speak to your GP.

But if you are not happy speaking to others about your diet (I suggest you get around this), you can always do your own research on another site to get some advice or read my post on dieting which is currently in the works. But if you have the money a dietitian is your best shot.
Method 2- Be more physically active.
Be more physically active.
Being physically active will lower the amount of cholesterol and fat going through your bloodstream and in your arteries. This does not mean extreme deadlifting or pulling cars with your bare hands but simply going out for a walk after work or even going for a swim once per month would give a massive effect on you.
Physical exercise has unlimited effects on your health but preventing CHD added with diet should literally take your risk level to near 0 if you keep it up and are in a healthy state. Just remember that your health can always be improved and don’t exercise over to the point where you wanna pass out, just stay comfortable. š
Method 3- Stop consumption of Alchohol and Cigarettes.
Stop consumption of Alchohol and Cigarettes.
Smoking is a major risk of atherosclerosis which basically is plaque and cholesterol on your heart’s arteries. Smoking will majorly increase your chances of getting CHD. If you are looking to stop smoking a post should be coming soon on this topic but if you really want to stop ASAP go to your GP about this.
Alcohol consumption also increases your risk of getting CHD also due to cholesterol and atherosclerosis. But although stopping alcohol would be best for your health, we cant expect this from you as it is a large part of the culture. We are only saying that you should drink within the recommended limit.
- It is advised by the NHS that you should not drink more than 14 units per week on a regular basis.
- Also spread your alcohol consumption over 3 days at a time.
Tips and Remedies:
We have gone over most ways to prevent CHD but that does not mean that that is the end of you being able to prevent CHD. There are many other ways that you can do this which I will now go into a bit more.
- Reduce your stress- Stress puts a lot of strain on the heart’s arteries. This can obviously lead to CHD as it may stop blood from traveling to the heart as well as the plaque on the artery walls.
- Keep your blood pressure under control. This is important as it puts a lot of pressure on the artery walls and also bringing up cholesterol levels.
- If you are really worried you can try medication to prevent CHD. Such as aspirin. But just know that this can have bad effects on you such as heart attacks!
